Services and Worship
Worship at the American Church in Berlin takes place every Sunday morning at 11:00, followed by a time of relaxed fellowship where we share coffee, conversation, and community.
Our worship follows the Western liturgical tradition, shaped by the rich patterns of prayer and praise Christians have practiced for millennia. Because we share in this universal liturgy of the Church, our worship is both deeply rooted in ancient forms and genuinely ecumenical—embracing the diverse backgrounds of our congregation and connecting us to Christians in every time and place. Our musical life is equally diverse: organ, piano, choir, instrumental ensembles, global music, traditional hymns, and contemporary pieces all have a home here.
We follow the Revised Common Lectionary every Sunday and feast day, joining hundreds of millions of Christians around the world in hearing the same stories of God’s saving love in the same pattern. Throughout the year, we mark the major seasons of the Church calendar—Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, and the long season after Pentecost. Special observances such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and the great festivals of the Church are kept with beauty, reverence, and joy.
We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion every Sunday, as well as on the holy days that we observe in worship (with the exception of Good Friday, when Christians around the world refrain from Communion in remembrance of Christ’s passion). We practice open communion: all who come seeking the grace of Jesus Christ are welcome at his table.
Above all, this is God's house, and you have a home here. All are truly welcome in this place. We look forward to welcoming you!
